THE ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES ACT, (As amended u) An act to provide, in the interests of the general public for the€ control of the production, supply and distribution of, and trade and commerce in certain, commodities.

Be it enacted by Parliament in the Sixth Year of the Republic of India as follows: 1. Short title and extent. The Essential Commodities Act, 47 (~1'for requiring persons engaged in the production, supply or distribution of, trade and commerce in, any essential commodity to maintain and produce for-inspection such books, accounts and records relating to their business and to furnish such information relating thereto, as may be specified in the order.
